The Martha Douglas Story

This historical novel tells of an only child who becomes a nurse in a city hospital but is always criticised unfairly by the Matron. But her sewing skills, as a hobby, are shown at the Kelvin Art Gallery and she is offered a position in the Royal Household in London. That leads to her discovery about the Suffragists and after taking up the cause she is imprisoned. Released on the out breakout the First world War Martha joins the Queen Alexandra Nurses and is sent to the front. After many dangerous exploits as the war ends she meets a New Zealand soldier badly wounded. She nurses him to fulkl recovery, marries him and settles in New Zealand.
