tgoyetteWorst book from a great author?2012-01-18 17:17:36
tgoyetteThere are so many to choose from, but I'd say 2001 a space odyssey byArthur C. Clark. The story with H.A.L. was great but once he arrived at where ever he arrived made no sense at all, and it was intentional. Maybe it was written to make sense to the hippies of the time. Wow, man, the star child. For that reason it gets my rating as the worst book from a great author. 2012-01-18 17:26:08
sfbellI'm going out on a limb and say the complete opposite of what the discussion topic is. In my opinion everything from Steven Burst other than: Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grill is confusing beyond redemption. So I think the main body of his work is the worst part. On a different note, I like the weekly discussion.2012-01-20 04:23:26
sfbelloooh then there is Tad Williams. Bleah! To be fair I never made it through an entire book by him. 2012-01-21 19:19:20
IronspiderOf the books I've read most recently I think I'd have to nominate either Matter or Surface Detail by Iain Banks. However, this is probably a prejudice based around my issue with stories that don't get to the point. I have no problem with either length (I'm currently reading Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged) or detail, just with wasted words and superfluous detail.2012-02-01 04:39:49
GordonRowlinsonIt by Stephen King. It was overblown and too long and gave up on it half way through. 2012-02-01 05:46:27
BottomdwellerStephen King - worse book: Pet Cemetary Big BOO! The cat comes back, the dog comes back, the child comes back, the mom comes back - who cares? It's like a child the poem, "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly" - you know what's going to happen after a while. Boo! It's a list book with no plot. Compare that to the masterpiece: Salem's Lot.2012-02-01 12:05:50
IronspiderIf I were to be a little uncharitable, I wouldn't even consider that Stephen King had a place in this discussion; after all this thread is titled 'worst book from a GREAT author'. Of the books I've read of his, none hold up to scrutiny; The Stand, Cujo, Salem's Lot, IT (agree with Gordon), Tommyknockers (unfinished). The only story I enjoyed was Christine, and even that dragged badly in parts.2012-02-03 04:59:12
SargeThe Bible by God. Look, all in all, it holds out hope, but it does drag on, and the plot is all over the place. :D2012-02-12 20:11:42
