mark211What are your predictions for 2015?2014-12-30 02:18:39
mark211Apologies for the recent hiatus in weekly discussions buuutt ... it's almost that time of year again, so what are your predictions for the next 12 months otherwise known as 2015?2014-12-30 02:19:55
mark211How will the world change? What trends in SFF do you think we might see an increase of? What might go into a decline?2014-12-30 02:20:59
mark211My own prediction is that, following on from high profile news stories such as Gamergate, that there will likely be an upsurge in SFF which relates to both 'sides' (if they can be so called) of the divide: on the one hand, a steep rise in novels exploring identity issues (mainly of race, gender and sexuality) - example: Kim Westwood's 'The Daughters of Moab'; and on the other, fiction that gleefully doesn't care a hoot for those kind of values - example: Robert Adam's 70s/80s series, Horseclans, a kind of Swords, Sex and Sandals epic. 2014-12-30 02:30:20
jessbaumYou really delved into this. haha I can't say what is going to happen in the writing world for sure, I mean we're people and trends will pop up that will make us all shake our heads. What I can say is that new writers will emerge and I have a feeling that this year is one to watch for. 2014-12-31 10:38:11
mark211Well I guess so, yes! Although I read 2000AD (a British Sci-Fi comic) and played loads of D&D when I was young, I got really pretentious by high school and got into literary fiction and that kind of thing. I didn't start reading SFF seriously again until about 4 or 5 years ago so I've had a lot of 'catching up' to do.2015-01-01 05:06:15
mark211But still ... trends can be interesting and they can be fun to try and guess what they might be. I think one thing that might be popular (again) will be near future SciFi with stories set only 10 or 20 years from now.2015-01-01 05:08:31
tgoyetteMy greatest hope is that there will finally be an electric care that costs the same or less than a traditional gas car.2015-01-01 10:35:26
micheledutcherI like to see energy stations being set up for electric cars, using solar energy in the stations. 2015-01-03 12:44:14
