I love zombies…and vampires and ghosts and things that go bump in the night. I enjoy reading a story where the main character is walking through an average day – and then ‘everything went terribly wrong’.
To feed my flirtation with the Children of the Night, Quantum Muse has graciously consented to host a horror contest complete with prize money. There will be a:
$50.00 first place prize
$30.00 second place prize
$20.00 third place prize
In order to win, an author will need to bring their ‘A’ game. Whether your stories have been published repeatedly at Quantum Muse – or you are ‘fresh blood’ – all stories of horror are welcome here. Of course we editors (Tim Goyette and myself) will not be participating but all staff members are encouraged to give it a go. Whether a story happens in deep space, in an age long gone past, or in current London – it is not so much the setting but the quality of the tale told that will grab the golden ring.
All stories should be rated PG13…think prime time television. Stories should be sent to the following email address:
All stories received will become candidates for publication later in Quantum Muse, with the 1st 2nd and 3rd place stories to be published in the October issue of Quantum Muse.
So get out your pen or word processor, write a tale of terror, and send it to the above email address by September 25th 2016. The Muse says, “Scare Me!” Michele Dutcher

The editors are loving it! 2016-09-23 07:56:11 I'm taking (hoping) the deadline to mean "up to and including" the 25th? 2016-09-22 17:01:24 micheledutcher - We have half a dozen GR8 stories so far. Send YOURS in by Sunday 25th to get in on the fun. 2016-09-17 14:35:38 micheledutcher - Just over a week left and we have excellent 5 stories in. Send in your scary story now for cash prizes - it's fun. I am loving this contest! 2016-09-12 11:04:51 micheledutcher - We have 4 great tales of terror so far! We want to read yours. Send in your horrible horror stories and rake in a cash prize. Michele 2016-09-08 02:07:10 micheledutcher - I hate to break in like this but I will be in Baltimore on October 11th for a writer's and editors Meetup if anyone here would like to join us.
We will meet for drinks and dinner during which we will discuss our webzines and our stories.
Write me back at the email above, my Yahoo account. Thanks Michele Dutcher 2016-09-07 07:35:13 micheledutcher - For Ironspider: a reworked story is fine. Less than 8000 words would be better, but Tim and I are probably okay either way. Looking forward to reading it...Michele Dutcher 2016-09-06 23:06:31 Ironspider - Micheledutcher - is 8,000 words (way) too long? I've one story I worked on some years ago, which I put aside when I started working on the Misrule stories. If you don't think that's excessive I can dust it down and go for an edit. 2016-09-06 12:37:07 micheledutcher - For Ironspider: go ahead, give it a shot. It is fun to write spooky stories with Halloween coming up. Remember to send it straight to me at the email address above. Michele D. 2016-09-06 04:55:59 Ironspider - I might give this a go, though my efforts at horror usually aren't! 2016-09-01 16:10:56 This contest is for short stories usually between 2000 words and 5000 words. Remember to send stories to my email address. We also plan to send out an announcement to some websites. 2016-09-01 16:02:04 John David Rose - Are there any guidelines for story length? Will flash stories be accepted? It sounds like a fun contest and I'm going to see if I can wake the personal muse. No promises though; she's been AWOL lately. 2016-09-01 12:11:36 GordonRowlinson - I think it is a juvenile, immature side of me that writes about monsters and it always seems a guilty pleasure to write horror. I cannot resist.
We shamelessly accept handouts!
Give generously to the United Wa - uh, we mean Quantum Muse. It keeps Mike off the streets from scaring small children and the Web Goddess from spray painting Town Hall - again.
