micheledutcherThe Vent by Michele Dutcher2012-03-09 08:42:39
micheledutcherThanks for your kind words. As this story was coming up through the meatgrinder I was surprised at how many people wanted there to be underwater cities and technology - but that was kind of my whole point: It is possible to be technology free and still by intelligent, 'I think therefore I am' creatures. Just because we don't see a giant city under the sea doesn't mean creatures don't live down there who are thinking beings - just like us. Question for discussion: Will being intelligent always lead to technology? 2012-03-09 08:45:47
GordonRowlinsonI don't think that intelligent life will necessarily lead to technology. I tend to think that we project human characteristics on our speculations on what life is like out there. J. B. S. Haldane, British geneticist and evolutionary biologist, once said, "Now my own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose." When we find intelligent life, I think it will be totally different than us. 2012-03-13 05:47:08
